The beauty of impermanence is a philosophy deeply rooted in Buddhism, and essentially means that the impermanence, or shortness of life, is in fact what makes life so beautiful. We should treasure every moment of life because it is fleeting and we don’t know when it will end. By embracing this, we can allow ourselves to be in the moment, and enjoy every second, instead of always dwelling on the past, or future, or hold on to our micro aggressions and worries.
In this piece, I represent the inner workings of the mind via cities, and those inner worries as mushrooms yet again. But this time they are encapsulated in a clean box and living in harmony with one another. On the outside I painted a poppy, alive and beautiful on one side, withering away on the other. The poppy is regularly used to symbolize the shortness of life and rebirth because it is such a short-lived flower. It also is a flower that propagates and spreads faster due to its short life, so it can spread its copious amounts of seeds. From death breeds life.
