This little series was originally started as “warm-ups” at the beginning of each studio day. It began with 8 Grimm’s fairy tales, all taking place in the forest. Each panel connects via the landscape and proceeds through the seasons (summer-summer), so will form a continuous scene when all lined up. Besides this, I challenged myself to not just illustrate a scene from each story, but to encompass the entire story into one image- every character and major plot point in one frame. I primarily chose lesser-known tales which all had the similar theme: the truth is hidden just under the surface.

These have now become very popular, gaining commissions for specific stories from buyers. So my current crazy goal is: to complete every Grimm’s tale (except for those I deem morally reprehensible, let’s get real, these were written awhile ago and can be troubling!).
