I could never build an earthworm, never make the earth turn: To me the author is acknowledging that just like she can’t control or create nature or control the world around her, she also cannot control another person, or how the world perceives her. In my piece, I illustrate the worm as an interconnected machine which is also supporting the world itself: miniscule things support and build much more than we realize or wish to appreciate.
